Arbor Day

The City of Sheboygan Department of Public Works along with Maywood Environmental Park will be celebrating Arbor Day on Friday April 29, 2022. We will be showcasing our newly constructed Bare Root Accelerated Growth System which will have approximately 370 trees in it this year. This system will greatly accelerate the root growth of newly planted trees to give them a jump start after transplanting. The construction of this project was made possible by the grant funding received from Sheboygan County Stewardship, Restoration Of Our Trees Sheboygan (ROOTS) and Alliant Energy paired with the hard work from Department of Public Works staff. The City Forester will discuss the benefits of the system and demonstrate the functionality. The celebration will finish with the planting of a tree near New Jersey Avenue.

This year the City of Sheboygan is celebrating 44 years of being designating “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation and 2 years designated a “Tree City of the World”. We are the longest-running in all of Wisconsin for both of these designations.

This is an outdoor event and is open to the public. The event will be located directly north of the DPW Municipal Service Building at 2026 New Jersey Avenue on Friday April 29, 2022 from 10am to noon. Options for parking would include: in designated stalls within the Municipal Service Building parking lot, along New Jersey Ave, or along S 22nd Street.

We look forward to seeing you there!
